Sweden signs military training simulation deal with Saab

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has signed a three-year framework agreement with Saab for military training and simulation systems.

As part of the agreement, the FMV has placed a preliminary order for simulation equipment from Saab worth SEK340 million (USD32.6 million), the company announced on 14 July.

Hans Lindgren, head of Saab Business Development at Training and Simulation, told Janes that the contract includes live training solutions for anti-tank, vehicle and soldier systems, and other associated equipment.

Lindgren was unable to provide further information as to what type of live training solutions are associated with the deal, however, he did note that Saab had earlier signed a contract with Sweden in February 2021 to deliver the Carl-Gustaf M4 Ground Combat Indoor Trainer.

The company detailed that the SEK340 million order was placed in the third quarter of 2022, and that deliveries are expected between 2023 and 2025.

As part of the three-year framework agreement, the FMV can place a further order worth up to SEK110 million.

Lindgren was unable to detail which units are set to receive the simulation equipment, however, he did say that their “systems are generally suitable for all ground-based units and allow our customers to distribute training to each regiment. This means soldiers and units can use the systems for all levels of training, including basic, and they can be used from everything from individual to collective training”.
