Our business

In a world crowded with increasingly unreliable information, our customers require timely, verified, validated, unbiased and relevant defence, threat, and equipment intelligence. The interconnectivity of Janes assured open-source intelligence and analysis enables us to provide you with the unique insights required to make mission critical decisions.

Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, such as slavery, servitude, forced and compulsory labour and human trafficking, all of  which  have  in common the deprivation of a person's liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and to implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own business or in any of our supply chains.

Our supply chain

We know that responsibility goes beyond what we can do alone as a business and that our supply chain has an important part to play. We require our employees, suppliers and third parties to ensure that they act in an ethical and sustainable manner when carrying out business on behalf of Janes and reinforce positive labour standards across supply chains.

Our commitment to addressing the issue of modern slavery in our business and supply chains is being communicated to all suppliers, contractors and business partners at the outset of our business relationship with them and reinforced as appropriate thereafter.

Standards and controls

We expect our suppliers to follow the Janes Third Party Code of Conduct. 

In addition, our internal procurement policies govern the procurement of all goods and services, providing details on both the selection criteria and the due diligence requirements on new and existing suppliers.

Our standard Janes Supply of Services teams set out the requirements for suppliers when supplying to Janes, and they refer to our third-party Code of Conduct and the expected behaviours and compliance expectations.

Our Janes Code of Conduct and relevant corporate policies are periodically reviewed and agreed by our Legal and Compliance in conjunction with Janes Executive team. 

Risk assessment

Our exposure to the risk of slavery and human trafficking has been acknowledged and is monitored in Janes Risk Register. The register is reviewed quarterly by Janes Risk Committee, which consists of Janes Board Members and other executive members of Janes.

Training, communication and monitoring

We include mandatory training around responsible procurement, on the risk our business faces from modern slavery in its supply chain and on slavery and human trafficking for UK as party of the induction process for all colleagues who work for Janes. 

Beyond training, communicating the ethics and compliance message is accomplished through internal websites, sales materials, and similar tools, all of which go hand-in-hand with a strong leadership tone.

Our Compliance team monitors supply chains in cooperation with Janes Legal and compliance office. Areas of concern are shared with the Ethics and Compliance Office, which oversees our ethics and compliance programs.

Approval

This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015 and has been signed by a Board Director. This statement constitutes Janes slavery and human trafficking statement for the financial year ending December 2022.
