PGZ Group and the Javelin Joint Venture (JV) (Raytheon and Lockheed Martin) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the production of Javelin missiles in Poland.
Signed on 6 September at the MSPO 2023 defence exhibition in Kielce, Poland, the MOU will explore the possibility of Mesko – part of the PGZ Group – undertaking final assembly of Javelins and producing small metallic machined components for the missile. The signing of the MOU was followed by the handing over of a 30 day request for proposals (RFP) from Javelin JV to Mesko to establish the company's ability to manufacture the components to a satisfactory level. Javelin JV has also planned a site visit to Mesko in October 2023.
A Lockheed Martin spokesperson told Janes that the MOU is designed to help expand the production capacity of Javelin beyond the current plans of doubling production to 3,960 per year on the US assembly line. The spokesperson added that parts produced by Mesko could feasibly be used on the US assembly line in the future. Should things go according to plan, Mesko could begin serial production of Javelin components next year, with final assembly of complete missiles coming later.
