Roketsan unveiled new variants of its Mini Akıllı Mühimmat (MAM) smart micro munition at the 16th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) held in Istanbul from 25 to 28 July.
The new additions were publicly displayed for the first time and include imaging infrared (IIR), designated as MAM-L IIR and MAM-T IIR, and dual seeker variants, designated as MAM-T Dual Seeker (MAM-T DS).
The lightweight MAM munitions are modular air‐launched, precision-guided weapons developed for use from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and light‐attack aircraft. The munition provides a close air support (CAS) and precision‐strike capability. The existing baseline variants feature semi-active laser (SAL) seekers and are credited with an operating range of 8 km (MAM-C), 15 km (MAM-L), and between 30 and 80 km (MAM-T).
The MAM-L IIR is the IIR variant of MAM-L and features an IIR seeker, a radio frequency (RF) datalink (replacing SAL seeker), and it has an extended operational range in excess of 25 km, according to Roketsan.
The missile is almost identical to the baseline model and retains its external appearance and control surfaces to be compatible with existing platforms. It is equipped with the same 10 kg warhead options, such as thermobaric and multi-purpose (anti-tank and blast-fragmentation) with a slight increase in total weight from 22 kg to 23 kg.
The MAM-T IIR is the IIR variant of MAM-T and has a distinct external appearance, with an improved mid-body wing kit. The 100 kg munition has a stated maximum range in excess of 50 km.
