Revenue at Airbus fell 6% to EUR10.5 billion (USD12.3 billion) in the third quarter of 2021, as fewer commercial airplane deliveries and less favourable foreign exchange rates more than offset gains at Airbus Helicopters, the Europe-based aerospace manufacturer announced on 28 October.
However, net income improved to EUR404 million, compared with a net loss of EUR767 million in the same period last year. Airbus has been cutting costs, including reducing the size of its workforce, to improve its profitability.
For the first nine months of the year, Airbus' revenue rose 17% to EUR35.2 billion, and its net income was EUR2.6 billion compared with a net loss of EUR2.7 billion a year earlier.
Revenue at Airbus Defence and Space has been nearly flat, declining 2% in the third quarter and 1% in the first nine months. However, the business segment's order intake surged 23% to EUR10.1 billion in the first nine months. Third-quarter orders totalled EUR6.6 billion and include 56 C-295 transport planes ordered by the Indian Air Force.
