The Myanmar Army has unveiled the MAM-03 multiple rocket launcher (MRL) and MMT-40 light tank commemorating the 75th anniversary of the country's independence.
According to video footage released by the state-owned broadcaster Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV), the MAM-03 and MMT-40 were seen participating in the independence day parade. Both capabilities are developed by Myanmar Directorate of Defence Industries (DDI).
Janes assesses that the new 300 mm MAM-03 has been inducted into the armed forces of Myanmar (Tatmadaw) to supplement the in-service 122 mm MAM-01 and the 240 mm MAM-02 MRL systems. The new MRL is potentially based on the Chinese 302 mm surface-to-surface MRL known as WS-1B. According to Janes Land Warfare Platforms: Artillery & Air Defence, the WS-1B is based on a 6×6 cross-country truck produced by China North Industries Corporation (Norinco) and can engage targets between 60 and 180 km.
The MAM-03 can potentially integrate WS-1B's mission systems such as a DZ-88B firing command truck with the fire-control computer and simulation trajectory system, Global Positioning System (GPS), gyrotheodolite direction system, infrared ranging system, radio communication, field meteorological detection system, and data transmission system. The MAM-03 will have the ability to fire the Chinese A100, A200, and A300 rockets with maximum ranges of 100, 200, and 290 km, respectively. However, the rocket composition depends on the type of 300 mm rockets that are procured by Myanmar. The range and type of rockets are also dependent on the mission systems integrated into the MAM-03.
Apart from the MAM-03, the army also displayed the MMT-40 light tank. Janes
