The Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence (MND) announced on its website on 21 October that its Defence Materiel Agency had signed a EUR45 million (USD45.1 million) contract with Sweden's Saab Dynamics for Bolide and Mk 2 missiles for the RBS 70 short-range air-defence system. Saab said in a press release published on 24 October that the missiles would be delivered in 2023−24.
The RBS has been operated by the Lithuanian Air Defence Battalion since 2004, and is easy to operate, mobile, and resistant to mechanical and electromagnetic interference, according to the MND, which said the Mk 2 missile has a range of 7 km and can reach an altitude of 4 km.
The ministry noted the critical role of air defence in the war in Ukraine.
Saab said it had delivered more than 1,600 RBS 70 launchers and 18,000 missiles to 19 countries.
