India and Israel have agreed to form a team to explore opportunities for expanded defence collaboration.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) in New Delhi said on 29 October that a joint task force will be charged with “formulating a comprehensive 10-year roadmap to identify new areas of co-operation”.
It said the task force was agreed during an India-Israel joint working group (JWG) on bilateral defence co-operation, which took place late October in Tel Aviv, Israel.
The MoD said the JWG also agreed the terms of reference for a new sub-level working group (SWG) on defence industry co-operation between the two countries.
It added, “The formation of this SWG would enable efficient utilisation of bilateral resources, effective flow of technologies and sharing industrial capabilities.”
The two countries' defence ministries already operate joint SWGs on defence procurement and production, and research and development (R&D).
The R&D sub-group was established in late 2020. On launching the group, the Indian MoD said it will facilitate technology transfers, co-development, and co-production projects. It will also look to support joint projects in artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies.
