Supacat displayed a version of its High Mobility Transporter (HMT) Extenda Mk 2 equipped with a 105 mm gun for the first time at Eurosatory 2022 defence exhibition in Paris.
The system was developed in co-operation with AM General and Mandus Group, which provided their Soft Recoil Technology (SRT) for the 105 mm gun mount.
The combination is intended to demonstrate how the SRT can enable towed 105 mm guns to be converted into self-propelled systems mounted on lightly armoured wheeled platforms, thereby increasing their mobility, improving their survivability against counter-battery fire, and reducing their crew complement.
Toby Cox, Supacat‘s head of sales, and John Chadbourne, executive vice-president at AM General, told Janes that although preparations to mate the SRT and 105 mm gun with the HMT Extenda Mk 2 began approximately one year ahead of the system being unveiled at Eurosatory, the SRT was not delivered to the UK and integrated into the HMT Extenda Mk 2 until three months before the start of the exhibition. Cox explained that the companies hope to secure sponsorship from the British Army that would enable the system's design to be finalised and provide funding for further trials and development, including a live-fire test by the end of 2022.
