Thai firm Chaiseri has developed new armoured fighting vehicle (AFV) and armoured reconnaissance vehicle (ARV) versions of its 4×4 First Win multipurpose vehicle (MPV).
The company told Janes at the Defense & Security 2022 show in Bangkok that initial prototypes of the two vehicles were recently completed with a view to meet requirements in the Royal Thai Army (RTA) and paramilitary forces.
A Chaiseri spokesperson said that the two prototypes will undergo valuations with the Thai military before further changes are made to the prototypes. The AFV version has already received initial approvals from the RTA, the spokesperson added.
Janes understands that Chaiseri has developed the two vehicles to meet a long-standing requirement within the RTA to replace existing Cadillac Gage V-150 Commando 4×4 light armoured vehicles, which have been operated by the RTA since the late 1970s.
Chaiseri said the First Win AFV features a proposed roof-mounted remote weapon station with a 12.7 mm machine gun and a co-axial 5.56 mm machine gun. However, the company said the weapons capability on the vehicle will be dependent on the RTA. The AFV, which measures 6 m in length, can carry up to seven troops plus the driver.
