A deal to purchase Baykar Technology's Bayraktar Tactical Block 2 (TB2) from Turkey for the Bangladesh Armed Forces is “under process”, Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Ibn Zayed, the director of Bangladesh Armed Forces' Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), confirmed to Janes on 27 July.
Lt Col Zayed declined to comment on the number of Bayraktar TB2 unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) Bangladesh Armed Forces is purchasing and when the deliveries are expected to be completed.
According to Janes All the World's Aircraft: Unmanned , Bayraktar TB2 is a medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) UCAV that can perform intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions including target acquisition and armed attack missions.
It has a length of 6.5 m, height of 2.2 m, and a wingspan of 12 m. It has a maximum payload capacity of 150 kg including 85 kg for external stores. It has an endurance of 27 hours, and a maximum take-off weight of 700 kg.
The UCAV has a maximum speed of 120 kt and an operating altitude of 5,486 m.
According to Janes All the World's Aircraft: Unmanned , Bayraktar TB2 is constructed from carbon fibre and Kevlar/epoxy resin composites. It features a fuselage pod that supports the type's ventral electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) turret, mid-mounted straight wings with leading edge strakes, and a rear-mounted engine.
Bayraktar TB2's payload can incorporate EO/IR sensor modules together with laser pointers, designators, rangefinders, and active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. It has four underwing hardpoints, and can be equipped with four Roketsan MAM-L/MAM-C micro-munitions.
The UCAV utilises Baykar's Real Time Imagery Transmission System (BGAM) for real-time high-resolution image transmission and processing.
