Janes, today announced a new collaboration with IBM, a leading provider of global hybrid cloud and artificial intelligence (AI), to integrate its open-source defence and security intelligence data into IBM’s watsonx AI and data platform. This collaboration not only broadens the scope and quality of Janes mission-critical data but also begins to build the foundation to enable defence leaders’ access to data and put to work AI to enhance decision advantage. Supporting this capability, AI is critical to enabling action at the speed of the digital battlespace – which is faster than a human's ability to process and act on incoming data.
Under this global collaboration, Janes will integrate IBM watsonx AI and data platform utilising an IBM Granite model with a Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pattern with Janes data. This RAG pattern can provide operational decision support, assisting military and intelligence analysts by generating comprehensive, data-augmented reports for situational analysis and decision making. In addition, AI-assisted scenario modelling and retrieval-augmented data analysis will enable more informed mission planning, helping defence teams anticipate challenges and mitigate risks.
“We are thrilled to partner with IBM to bring state-of-the-art GenAI to the defence sector,” said Leendert Van Bochoven, chief commercial officer at Janes. “Combining Janes world-class data model and dataset with IBM’s GenAI platform allows us to deliver unprecedented intelligence and insight to our customers. This collaboration will reshape how defence agencies interact with interconnected and assured data in a world that demands agility and precision within a well-governed environment.”
“Imagine a world where military leaders easily pinpoint and use the data they need to make strategic decisions,” said Chris Nott, Global CTO Defence & Security, IBM. “Our collaboration with Janes will help build the foundation that enables defence leaders to more easily collaborate with allies across departments, agencies, and countries to accelerate decision making, boost operational readiness, and enhance national security.”
Janes and IBM are committed to deploying responsible solutions with strong governance to ensure accuracy, trust and ethical use of AI to unlock the power of multiple sources of data for actionable, timely data-driven insights that augment human decision-making in defence and intelligence organisations.
